Rural workers in the 18th and 19th centuries fough

Rural workers in the 18th and 19th centuries fought against enclosure of lands by holding onto ancient rights and customs. These customs and practices defined the identities of individuals and communities to a place. This daily lived experience was used as a tool to contest exclusion from power. Contestation continues today in the new enclosures of public spaces and the creeping privatisation in all aspects of our lives.
